There Are No Strings on Me

79 × 48 inches

Oil painting on paper mounted on wood panel with fluid acrylic background

explores autonomy, growth, and resistance through a surreal, storybook-inspired figure caught in transformation. Branch-like forms and patterned textures suggest organic evolution, reinforcing the idea that identity grows naturally rather than being controlled or constructed.

The word “Behave” contrasts with the figure’s confident posture, highlighting a quiet refusal to conform. While the imagery loosely echoes the mythology of Pinocchio, the narrative shifts toward independence and personal agency—embracing growth that cannot be restrained.

“I will pretend to listen. To follow. To become what you want me to be.But I will not behave. I am too busy growing. With no strings on me.”

Briar Rose

Fluid acrylic background with oil-painted figures on wood

48 × 48 inches

Drawing from the folklore origins of Sleeping Beauty, this diptych reinterprets the story through a surreal symbolic lens. Fluid acrylic textures create an atmospheric ground from which elongated figures emerge in oil, suggesting a theatrical narrative suspended between dream and consequence. The spinning wheel anchors the composition as a symbol of fate, power, and cyclical control.

Rather than retelling the fairytale, the work examines what lies beneath it. Early versions of the Briar Rose story reveal troubling contradictions—power without accountability and innocence without agency. Decorative surfaces and storybook imagery mask darker psychological themes, questioning how traditional narratives soften or conceal uncomfortable truths over time.

Perceive ME

Liquid acrylic background with oil and spray paint on wood panel

24 × 48 inches

Set against a fluid, energetic background, the central figure appears suspended within the unfolding ride of her own life. Surreal characters orbit her form like passing thoughts, memories, and influences—each one shaping perception while remaining just beyond control. The work reflects the tension between self-awareness and outside interpretation, asking the viewer to pause and truly look.

“I am locked inside the ride of my life.”

The Carrot

Oil and mixed media on wood

15 × 21 inches

A surreal figure bends inward as desire hovers just within reach. The carrot—symbol of pursuit—hangs from the figure’s own head, suggesting that the things we chase often originate from within ourselves. As the form stretches and wraps toward the object of focus, the work reflects the tension between curiosity, ambition, and the quiet realization that what we seek may already be part of us.

Living in My Galaxy

25 × 37 in

Oil paint and spray paint on wood

Started live at Strangecreek in Greenfield, Massachusetts, this piece was created using a fast-drying process that keeps the work archival while allowing it to evolve in real time. Painted in my simplified harlequin style, the figure floats in a self-contained universe—built only with brush and spray, without a traditional background—suggesting a character fully at home in her own strange and colorful galaxy.
