The Future in the Present
Oil paint on hand-cut wood
4’ × 8’
Begun as a live performance painting and later completed in the studio, The Future in the Present evolved through many transformations—mirroring the fluid nature of time and perception.
A surreal figure moves through layered space, accompanied by a vibrant cat that, in an unexpected turn, came to reflect a real presence in my life. Originally painted blue before I had a cat, it now appears in the same vivid orange as the kitten I would later welcome—an intuitive glimpse into what was to come.
Balancing lighthearted storytelling with bold, sculptural cutouts, the piece explores intuition, change, and the quiet ways the future can reveal itself within the present moment.
